The stark outline of the Criffel is often highlighted
by the wonderful sunsets. Even
though the Isle of Man is over 40miles distant it can, if conditions are
right, be seen on the horizon.

The northern shore of the Solway is a treacherous area of shifting sandbanks,
dominated for many miles with the brooding presence of the extinct volcano
now
known as the Criffel. The late summer sunset forming a backdrop that emphasises
